Applications: As a fumigant, ethyl 4-hydroxypiperidine-1-carboxylate has been the subject of limited research reports on its toxicity to some stored grain pests and its effectiveness in fumigating grain. Ethyl 4-hydroxypiperidine-1-carboxylate is effective in controlling all life stages of the red flour beetle and the grain borer, although a small number of rice weevils still survive, with survival rates lower than 16ºC at fumigation temperatures of 24ºC and 29ºC. Furthermore, one study found that the presence of wheat significantly affected the fumigation efficiency of ethyl 4-hydroxypiperidine-1-carboxylate, and that for the same mortality rate, the more wheat in the container, the higher the required concentration of ethyl 4-hydroxypiperidine-1-carboxylate; higher humidity in the container also resulted in better fumigation effects.
