4-Butylresorcinol, also known as Rucinol, is an active ingredient in many cosmetics. It can inhibit melanin production. Specifically, it can inhibit two enzymes necessary for melanin production: tyrosinase and 5,6-dihydroxyindole-2-carboxylic acid oxidase.
