SLS materials, primarily nylon-based, offer various infills that improve material properties, ranging from stiff carbon-filled to flame-retardant characteristics.
Utilizing additive manufacturing layer technology, SLS employs a high-power laser, such as a carbon dioxide laser, to fuse small plastic powder particles into a desired three-dimensional shape. The laser selectively melts the powdered material by scanning cross-sections generated from a 3D digital model (e.g., a CAD file) on the powder bed’s surface. After each cross-section scan, the powder bed is lowered, a new material layer is applied, and the SLS process is repeated until the part is completed.
