Description: Sodium sulfate, also known as Glauber's salt, anhydrous sodium sulfate, or anhydrous sodium nitrate, is a white, monoclinic, fine crystal or powder. It has a relative density of 2.68 and a melting point of 884℃. It is soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is neutral. It is soluble in glycerol but insoluble in ethanol. When exposed to air, it readily absorbs moisture, becoming hydrated sodium sulfate. It is a polycrystalline substance, exhibiting rhombic crystals at temperatures ranging from 32.4℃ to 223℃, and forming monoclinic crystals at higher temperatures, transforming into hexagonal crystals at 241℃. When crystallizing from solution, it has an affinity for iron, iron compounds, and various organic substances; high-purity, fine-particle anhydrous sodium sulfate is called Glauber's salt.




Applications: Used as an analytical reagent and mordant.
