Description: Colorless or yellow crystals, relative density 2.168 (0℃), melting point 271℃, decomposes at 320℃. Easily soluble in water; its aqueous solution is alkaline due to the hydrolysis of nitrite. Sodium nitrite exhibits both oxidizing and reducing properties, with oxidizing properties being predominant.




Applications: Used as a common analytical reagent, oxidizing agent, and diazotizing reagent; also used in the synthesis of nitrites and nitroso compounds.
