ANSI/ASME B18.2.2 square flange nut           can be turned with a square wrench. One of the first fasteners, the square nut is regarded by many as an easy-to-use fastener that holds even the most difficult parts. The first version of the square nut was carved out of wood and used on threaded dowels.
