Chemical Name Sodium Salt of Salicylic Acid.
Technical Information White odourless crystals, scales or powder; becomes pinkish on long exposure to light. Aqueous solution slightly acidic, pH between 5-6.

Description Flakes - Colourless, Crystalline flakes.
Powder - White powder.
Odour Odourless or with a faint characteristic odour.
Reaction A 10% w/v solution in water is neutral or acid to litmus.
Acidity 2.0g dissolved in 50 ml of CO₂ free water requires not more than 0.2 ml of 0.1N N_aOH solution to produce a red
colour.

Clarity & Colour of Solution Passes Test.
Organic Volatile Impurities Passes Test.

Sulphite or Thiosulphate 1g of Sodium Salicylate dissolved in 20 ml of water and acidified with 1 ml of conc.
HCl, the filtrate does not require more than 0.15 ml of 0.1N Iodine Solution.
Loss on drying 0.5% (max) when dried at 105°C.
Assay 99.0% to101% I.P/B.P.,
99.5% to 100.5% U.S.P of C₇H₅O₃Na calculated with reference to substance dried at 105°C.
